About me

My name is Joar Alexander Pablo von Arndt. I am a European hacker from Stockholm, Sweden, the child of a journalist and a visual artist, and currently a full-time student doing my bachelors. I am studying political science at the Swedish Defence University, a unique blend between a civilian university and a military college.

As a child I dreamed of becoming a theoretical particle physicist at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and so have long had an interest in the hard sciences. I went to a technical high school where I was largely introduced to computer programming and begun “daily-driving” GNU/Linux. I considered studying at KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology, but decided not to because I believe I can do more by studying the organisational and strategic behaviour of mankind.

I currently serve as the secretary of the civilian section (Civila Sektionen) of the Swedish Defence University’s student union, and in this capacity am involved in numerous activities related to student oversight of the university’s education.

I am interested in lisp programming, GNU Emacs, free (as in freedom) software, political economy, and the philosophy of life in an increasingly technical world. I am a Georgist and an Ellulian.

About the Website

This website is my personal space on the web, a space for experimenting with software, web design, writing, and general personal reflections. All opinions here are my own, and I claim misinterpretation for all references to other people. This website is my personal kingdom over which I am completely sovereign and to which I can publish whatever I want. Thus its contents are not catered to any specific audience. It serves as something akin to what Foucault calls a hupomnemata — a personal account of ideas, quotes and concepts “for a purpose that is nothing less than the shaping of the self”.

I highly recommend that you get your own.

Because the point of this website is not to accrue money or internet points, but to merely be a reflection of me personally, I do not use large language models to write any content posted here. Everything has been painstakingly written by hand the old-fashioned way — spelling mistakes and em dashes included.

If you have questions about the technical implementation of this site I have written a post about that specifically. It is updated continuously as I make changes, and the post itself is even used to render the site.

Contact

As I have written before I prefer email as a form of communication. Feel free to send me a message regarding anything I’ve written on this site or any general questions you may have; I’ll be happy to hear from you. My email address is:

joarxpablo at vonarndt dot se

The address is formatted like this to keep away crawlers that send out spam. If you are a human you should easily be able to identify the correctly formatted address.

You might also be interested in my codeberg (and github) if you know what that is.
